Hello yet again Kazunori, Polyphony, Sony, the gaming
industry, power companies, governments and extra
terrestrials. I've had to create this page for the
third GT game in (not quite) a row out of peer pressure
from that guy in the mirror. It has to be made,
after discovering a few things not quite right and
not quite left in the game. But instead of making
it just a page of positives, i've included bad things
about GT7 as well to spice things up a bit. Because
i like spicy things (unless they are spicy, then
i don't like them).
Bolded things (<<< apart
from that) i feel most strongly
about. And even though i'm a modest person, i
will admit i'm quite strong. Although my young
son can forcefully throw his bottle out of his
mouth despite my sheer strength holding it there
as if i was a rock stuck in a hard place. But
he's just a really strong little boy. Right? RIGHT?!?!
Hmm, maybe i should
cancel the subscription to my home gym. Not having
a home gym has always bothered me, with the fees
i have to pay myself to use its nothingness.
Anyways, i do get
a bit heated under the collar with a few of the
negatives below (this is sadly the most serious
page on this website), so hold someone's hand
while reading it please. I get that way, because
this is the series i've been playing for over
20 years. The series with the new
release of GT7, which i have no desire to play
anymore after only four days (20:21:20 hours/minutes/seconds)
of play time... Read on.

BAD
THINGS (37) |
|
1.
ROLLING START RACES. I'm so freaking
over this crappy way of starting races.
I wouldn't mind as much if they did rolling starts
like they do in real races - double file, packed
together - but not separated in a single line
with the race starting as you in last place cross
the finish line, with the guy in first place already
at the second or third corner. COME ON
Polyphony, STOP THIS
NONSENSE!!!!!
2. HORSEPOWER MAX. I've only
fully modded a couple of cars so far, but am already
annoyed that some vehicles are down 400-500hp
from what they were able to get in Gran Turismo
1. Most cars that feature in videogames can
easily and somewhat reliably in real life get
more than 1,000hp - 1,500hp. Skylines, Supra's,
Mustangs, Porsches, Lamborghinis, anything with
a V8 and so on. But for some annoying reason Polyphony
have been steadily been decreasing the max HP
since GT1 - i know because every successive
GT game i always mod the 'usual suspects' and
quickly discover they are not as powerful as they
once were. Come on Kaz, let us build 1,000hp+
cars again (with factory engines, not
just engine swaps) PLEASE! Make it really
expensive if you have to, just please give
us the choice!
3. LOW TRACTION LIMITS.
Wet races i'm okay with, i know that everything
gets slippery - i've oversteered and understeered
enough on wet roads in my real cars to realise
this. But the traction in the dry is slipperier
than ever before in a GT game (i haven't played
the game since after the 1.06 update though).
I'm not going to sugar coat it with reasons why
it could be more realistic like this or not -
i'm not playing Project Cars or other such sim-ier
games, i don't need to nor want to be nervous
around every damn corner and while accelerating
along every damn straight. That is NOT Gran
Turismo. This is the first GT game ever
where i've had to turn traction control on
(and in some cases countersteer assist etc too)
just to drive normal road cars
in such a way that i don't spin out. I really
hate using driver aids in car games as it makes
me feel as though i'm cheating, which means it's
taken a HUGE amount of fun out of the game for
me and made me lose a lot of desire to
play it again. It is not fun, even though
i really was trying to come to grips with it (no
pun intended) and thought i was getting the hang
of it in some races. But then BOOM, around i go
yet again.
These top three things are the main contributors
that are giving me almost zero inclination to
play the game at the moment instead of something
else. Games i haven't played, or regularly play
like Battlefield 1, Far Cry New Dawn, Minecraft,
Forza Horizon 4, Ace Combat 7 and Farming Simulator
20 all give me slightly higher inclinations to
play at the moment over GT7. I've never
EVER in over 20 years of playing Gran Turismo
lost the will/desire to play the game within a
week of it's launch, not even after a few months,
until this game!
4. I don't
like how some cars don't have as much customisation
as others (Polyphony: please include rear
body kits if you're giving us front and side
skirts! Don't be like Forza and omit the rear
of the car, as it ruins the look/proportions!),
but that's just me being greedy. Same deal with
cars that i think should have more than the lots
of customisation options they already do, greed.
5. Still miss the car horns from GT6!
6. Wee bit gutted there's no non GT-R Skylines
in the game (please bring back the R32 GTS-t,
R32 GTS-4 and R32 GTS-25 - perhaps one of them
in four door form, as four door R32 Skylines
are loved by many fans out there, and are common
for drifting!). Also perhaps an R33 GTS-25t coupe
or sedan, R33 GTS-4 coupe or sedan (perhaps a
facelift square version and pre facelift curvier
version?). And an R34 GT-T coupe or sedan, and
R34 25GT coupe with the factory option body kit
that makes them look really aggressive.
7. Still waiting for the McLaren P1. One of my
ultimate dream cars, after the Ferrari F50.
8. I do NOT like the new Trial Mountain layout.
The track environs itself have never
looked better and we no longer have the boring
repetitive texture 'walls' along the back straight
etc. But i don't like how
wide the track now is, how flat
it now is, how the back and front
straights are significantly longer/more drawn
out, how the last corner is so
slow now and yadda yadda. I know why
they did it, to fit more cars in the pits in online
modes etc, but i just don't like it's new layout.
I'm not alone feeling this way. I'd feel
a 110% better if they released an offline only
'original' layout Trial Mountain, with the same
environmental look it has now.
9. I'm also not too fond of the new Deep Forest
either, for the same reasons as above. But
environmentally it too looks better than ever,
it's just the changing of the layout that
irks me. Polyphony, when we say we want
the original tracks back, we mean the original
tracks. We don't mind if you alter the track environs,
but NOT the
layout in such a major way! Again, i'd feel
110% better if an offline original layout version
was added.
10. Getting annoyed at not being able to enter
races because i've got the wrong tyres on - give
me the option to change them then and there so
that i don't have to backtrack four or five pages
to the tuning page to change them! Like how i'd
just bought dirt tyres for the Mitsubishi GTO,
then forgot about it and tried to enter an event
in World Circuits mode only to get a "Cannot
enter with dirt tyres. Please go back to change
them." message pop up. Give
us this message IN THE EVENT as we click
on the enter race button, not before entering
the event. At least then we can scroll over to
settings and change them then and there!
11. Some missions/licence tests/races etc would
be better if the race menu had the option
to go to the next event, instead of having
to go back to the main menu area to go to the
next event. I know the option is actually there
for some events, but not all.
12. Bring back qualifying.
13. Bring back the ability to see the options
people use in the leaderboards menu (you used
to be able to see if they used TCS, ABS, steering
wheel/controller (?), manual or auto and so on).
I was going through the licence tests trying to
beat as many people on my friends lists times
as i could, but not knowing if the really fast
times were done with or without aids is a bit
annoying.
14 Still no New Zealand tracks. I'd love to see
Highlands Motorsport Park (Cromwell, Central Otago,
South Island) in the game, but would be happy
with anything from NZ.
15. No
Venturi
16. No Vector
17. No Tommy Kaira Skylines!!!
18. No Mine's R32, R33 or R34 GT-R's
19. No 2000 SVT Mustang Cobra R
20. No newer Pontiac Firebirds/Trans-am's
21. Not very many RUF's (bring back the BTR and
Yellow Bird!)
22. No 1991-1995 Dodge Viper RT/10
- no-one has this car in videogames anymore!
23. Cars still don't stay dirty?
24. No Motorsports Land (nothing can replace this
classic!)
25. No Red Rock Valley Speedway
26. No Grindelwald
27. No Australian cars (Bring back the Commodores
and Falcons, of ALL years! Like the late 1980's
Commodore VL, which uses Nissan RB engines!)
28. No drag cars (i want the HKS R33 GT-R again!
and the faster Heat Treatments R32 GT-R Drag Car
(New Zealand))
29. Used car lot doesn't seem to update often?
30. Engine swaps are locked behind a lottery/roulette
system and not simply available like other car
modifications. Some people may never experience
certain engine swaps because of this game of luck!
PLEASE unlock them for everyone!
31. From what i've read and seen; rain spray,
dust and tyre smoke have been severely
reduced in the 1.06 update. The
particle effects were the best and most
realistic i've ever seen in any
videogame - please bring the full effects
back, as it ruins the immersion!!
32. Can't sell cars anymore.
Money is hard enough to come by as it is, please
let us sell cars we don't want instead of simply
'discarding' them.
33. Please show our CURRENT CAR in the
paint selection screen for all the purchaseable
paints, not the Supra, Lancia
and whatever the other car is. It's impossible
to tell how the car you're in will look with
the vast selection of paint colours only able
to be shown on three completely different cars
than the one we're most likely in at the moment.
34. Bring back the Mercedes-Benz
SL55 AMG (R230) please!
35. Bring back the Seattle Circuit, with its original
layout.
36. When painting cars, please give us the option
to also select factory colours for that vehicle
(like if we won it or bought it already from the
used car lot).
37. Bring back Complex String.
I still can't quite
believe that eventually the rolling starts and
low max hp figures, along with some of the rest
of the things above, would actually lead me to
not wanting/not having a desire to play
a GT game. I'm genuinely still in
a bit of shock about that, as i still own
every single GT game that went on sale here in
New Zealand, and i've never
not wanted to play a GT game before. I was so
incredibly hyped up about this game, for years,
and it's probably been the biggest disappointment
game i've ever paid full price ($175NZD) for.
I won't be seeking a refund for my game, because
i have the hope that one day things will improve
(i plan to keep an eye on game updates, and what
players say about them). But i also have a fear
that they won't improve.
It's not too late
to get me back Kaz/PD. Just bring back standing
start races to career mode to 90% or more of the
races, give us increased horsepower options (1,000hp+
for most cars which can get there in real life)
and a few more of the above list, and i honestly
believe that'll be enough to get me back. In the
meantime, i'm off to play Battlefield, Minecraft,
Far Cry and many other non car games. :(

GOOD
THINGS (14) |
|
1.
Graphics have somehow got even better than GT
Sport, in every way. Lighting is incredible, sun
reflections, headlights, wet weather effects (like
not being able to see anything of other cars than
their headlights sometimes - sadly it
sounds like this is no longer the case after the
1.06 update :( ) and so on. By far the
best looking car game i've ever
played.
2.
Pleasantly surprised to see the Ferrari Testarossa
in the game! It's a car i was wanting, but never
expected to get (mind you, i thought i'd never
see the F50 in a GT game either). I honestly thought
that if anything we'd get the 512M, like in Forza.
3. Loving the huge amount of customisation available
for a number of cars: bodykits, licence plate
deletes (wasn't expecting - i take the front plates
off of almost every car i modify), all rims/paints
available straight away (if you have money), roll
cages (wasn't expecting), widebody kits, spoilers,
front grill customisation (wasn't expecting),
bonnet latches (wasn't expecting) etc etc. Also
love how liveries can cover chrome body parts
(like on the old Mini Cooper) and some windows.
4.
Car sounds have gotten better still, i think.
Mitsubishii GTO fully upgraded sounds epic. GT
has never had so much transmission whine, pops,
crackles and so on, and it all combines to create
an awesome thing to listen to. Even the birds
etc as ambient sounds on tracks is so well done!
5. Car details/accuracy is still, in my judgemental
opinion, the most detailed and accurate
car modelling EVER seen in any mainstream videogame
ever made on ANY console/PC. I encourage
people to prove me wrong if you think someone
else does it better. But i've been playing GT
since GT1, and with every single new Gran Turismo
released, they've had the car details (exterior
mainly, until they started detailing the insides)
better and more accurate than every other car
game of each time period. I especially thought
this way in GT2, GT5/GT6 and GT Sport/GT7. Polyphony,
you are truely artists in this regard,
at the absolute top of the game (no pun
intended), and i always knew that if the Ferrari
F50 came to Gran Turismo that you'd have it more
accurate than anyone else (in particular the mesh
at the rear of the car - i've not seen a better
version anywhere else!).
6. I like how some tracks from GT Sport have had
visual changes/upgrades, and in some cases new
sections of track added.
7. I like the cafe system, for now. Do kinda miss
the old layout of GT games, but i'm giving this
idea a fair chance in GT7 so not trying to think
negatively of it at the moment. It's making me
drive and experience vehicles i may not have tried
otherwise. Which could be the point?
8. Glad the used car dealership is back, but it
doesn't seem to change much, very often?
9. In a way i'm glad that the prices of cars have
gotten as expensive as they can get in real life,
i.e. with R34's over $400k now i think. In another
way i'm not glad, as i need more money!
10. Dynamic weather is awesome.
Love being able to turn wipers on and off if i
please too. If i don't, it's fun watching the
droplets on the windscreen tear off at speed,
jitter around over bumps and stay clustered together
sometimes as they do in real life when wipers
get turned off or wipe the water away.
11.
Time of day progression is also awesome,
and i forgot how much i missed it from GT6. Headlight
projection onto objects is cool (road signs get
quite glare-y for example) and happy to see AI
cars headlights work properly too.
12. Don't mind the music so far. It's about what
i expect in a GT game.
13. Music Rally is ... different. I like it so
far, two events in.
14. Replay's. Yet again, it's
almost addicting (and i often restart a race if
i think i messed up too much for a decent replay)
to watch the replay after every good race. The
camera angles, zoom, etc all make for incredibly
realistic viewing, and are giving my PS4 share
button a good workout in terms of screenshots
(too lazy to take photos in the replay mode most
of the time, even though i know they'll look better).
I know this list
isn't very long at the moment, but that's because
i've only played GT7 for about four days (the
first fiveish days after launch) until i lost
interest because of the rolling starts, low tyre
grip on sports cars and so on. So the list would
likely be bigger if i played the game more, but
at this stage i don't see it happening anytime
soon. Unless Polyphony actually do make the cars
a bit more grippy and remove almost all rolling
start campaign mode races (or give us the option
to select grid/standing starts).
Not something i ever
expected to say about a new GT game, that i'd
lost interest in it... :/ Please Kaz/PD,
fix these problems. ;(
