Sorry Kazunori, Polyphony,
Sony, the gaming industry,
power companies, governments
and extra terrestrials;
but this page has to be
made after discovering
a few things not quite
right in the game (for
me personally - since
i'm me and you're not).
But instead of making
it just a page of negatives,
i've included good things
about GT4 as well for
a counterbalance. Because
i'm a nice person like
that.
Obviously there are
good things about the game, but there will always
be bad things too. But the worst thing about GT4?
MY CARS AREN'T IN IT!!!!! Of
course anyone else whose car isn't in the game
will know how i feel. I know you'd love nothing
more that for my cars to be in this game, and
i sincerely thank you for your support and selflessness.
Of course you could always have wanted your car
or cars in the game, but choose to wish for my
ones instead. I am greatly honoured, don't be
skeptical/doubtful for a second. It really does
mean a lot. :)
Bolded things (<<< apart
from that) i feel most strongly about. SHORT OF
SHOUTING THEM, i found that bolded text does that
same job for half the price. What? I shouldn't
be paying anyone to put bold or SHOUTY text on
a webpage? I think i've been scammed... :(
For those reading
this now, i wrote this list in 2006 or earlier,
things have changed since then. Like the mess
in your bedroom, the calendars and most importantly,
the intelligence of human beings (in both directions...).

BAD
THINGS (50) |
|
1. The race results
screen only stays on screen for about 15 seconds
then disappears regardless of whether the other
cars have passed the finish line or not. Put it
back to the way it was in GT2 please, i want to
know how far behind the AI cars are!
2. No R32 Skyline GTS-4 sedan
(noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*starts crying*)
3. No non GT-R R33 or (road version) R34 Skylines
(i.e. GTS-25t, GT-T, GT-FOUR etc)
4. Not many R30 or R31 Skylines
5. Not enough R32 Skylines (i want the GXi, GTE,
GTS and GTS-4!)
6. No Ferrari
7. No Porsche
8. No Lamborghini
9. No Venturi
10. No Vector
11. No Maserati
12. No Bentley road cars
13. No Lister road cars
14. Not many Shelby's
15. No Tommy Kaira Skylines!!!
(quite disappointed about that)
16. No Mine's R32 GT-R
17. No 'common' Mustang models (i.e 2004 to the
first 'Stang - excluding the Cobra R and Shelby
GT 350)
18. No 'common' Pontiac Firebirds/Trans-am's
19. Not very many RUF's (but more than happy with
the selection - especially the BTR and Yellow
Bird)
20. No Viper RT/10 (my brother is especially disappointed
about this as he doesn't like the SRT/10) - no-one
has this car in videogames anymore!
21. No Viper ACR
22. Still no blue, yellow etc colour's for the
Viper GTS
23. Can't change wheel sizes
24. Exhausts never visually change when buying
new ones
25. Rear spoilers only come in one size - huge.
Should be a few smaller ones because on some cars
they look WAY wrong. Not ungrateful though - was
a surprise/delight to find out you could do this!
26. Can't sort cars in the garage by mileage
anymore (grrrrr)
27. Some game stats seem to have disappeared (i
like stats so this isn't a good thing for me)
28. No race body mods
29. Still no 'settable' course record like in
GT1
30. Qualifying seems to have been left out? Officially
anyway.
31. Too many songs to listen to! (just kidding!!)
32. Cars still don't get dirty, just dull/non
shiny
33. AI cars (enough said. But they are better
than any other Gran Turismo - nothing like going
full bore around a blind corner on the Nurburgring
to find a spun out TVR Cerbera Speed 12 blocking
the road. I find it fun to try avoid stuff like
that!)
34. No Motorsports Land (Motorland is good PD,
but nothing can replace this classic!)
35. No Red Rock Valley Speedway
36. No Grindelwald
37. Not that i'm ungrateful but five Australian
cars still really isn't enough! There's heaps
of awesome cars over here.
38. Can't fit turbo's to some cars (i wanted my
R32 GTS-25 to have more power)
39. Cars cannot be tuned (horsepower)
to the high levels of GT3 anymore - which is in
fact unrealistic as there are 1,000 hp R32 Skyline
GT-R's cruising the streets, so it can be done
Polyphony...
40. Still no 3-5 km straight stretch
of road for testing top speed of cars - but i
take that back after unlocking the Circuit de
la Sarthe II. 6 km Hunaudieres Straight with no
chicanes!!
41. Only one drag strip, which can only be raced
on one side... (um...)
42. No drag cars (i wanted the HKS R33
GT-R! and the Heat Treatments R32 GT-R Drag Car
(New Zealand))
43. Time of day/lighting on tracks still
does not change
44. Not many wet tracks (i.e. one)
45. Nissan Skyline car sounds now seem to be the
worst they have ever been in Gran Turismo - which
has partially ruined the game for me. There wasn't
anything really wrong with them in GT3, but now
they can sound like four cylinders/Honda V-tecs...
(with different exhausts on you can notice it
more) - the R32 GTS-t being by far
the worst offender
46. Blow off valves and turbo whine cannot be
heard in replays or the behind car view
47. No drag racing events
48. Las Vegas Drag Strip cannot be used
in two player mode
49. Drifting seems to be harder in this game?
Harder to hold a drift than GT3 anyway
50. Photomode camera's shouldn't have boundaries,
or less restricting ones anyway - you should be
able to put the camera wherever you want (within
reason)
If you're reading
this, haven't played Gran Turismo 4 and are doubtful
about doing so then please keep reading as it
just gets better from here on!! Still well worth
your money!

GOOD
THINGS (55) |
|
1. Car detail
2. Car handling
3. Car physics/handling
4. Redesigned/improved racetracks
5. BMW M3!!
6. BMW M3 CSL!!!!!! (thank you!!)
7. FPV F6 Typhoon!! (w00t!! -
only PD can get these cars looking correct *cough*
Need for Speed *cough*)
8. FPV GT!!! (*faints*)
9. Holden Monaro SV8!
10. Holden Commodore SS!
11. Mercedes-McLaren SLR!! (was a BIG surprise
to see this)
12. New 'roof' camera view!!
Thank you PD, i always seem to do better in car
games with this view!
13. El Capitan. Most definitely
the most amazingly realistic looking track ever
- the scenery is just so awesome!
14. The new High-Speed Ring. I really like this
new version as it lives up to it's name now more
than it ever has.
15. The modified Midfield Raceway. Love the see-through
tunnel and how some of the corners have now been
straightened or tightened.
16. The Modified Deep Forest Raceway. Despite
there not being much of a forest anymore (which
was a surprise) the new version is quite good
and looks heaps better.
17. The updated Laguna Seca. Finally this course
is updated to the way it is now in real life.
Instead of the boxed in circuit of Gran Turismo
old, this version has heaps more run off and the
corkscrew has been improved too.
18. The updated Apricot Hill. No major track changes
have been made here because it didn't need any.
But scenery has had an overhaul and looks much
better for it.
19. The updated Cote 'D Azur. With GT4's new '3D'
scenery design this track looks nothing short
of spectacular - especially coming out of the
tunnel on the back straight. It is not the new
(2004 F1 race track) version of this track however.
20. The updated Special Stage Route 5. Basically
only the scenery has changed in this along with
a few new ripple strips etc. The big grandstand
that has always covered pit lane has now gone
in place of new smaller ones which don't cover
anything.
21. The updated Clubman Stage Route 5. As above
only the scenery has changed, a new view of a
harbour in the distance looks pretty darn good.
22. The updated Grand Valley Speedway. This track
now looks VERY impressive and is a contender for
the most realistic looking GT track ever! The
extended see through section of the last tunnel
improves that part of the track vastly.
23. The updated Grand Valley East Section. As
above this track now looks very impressive, the
small one is still fun.
24. The updated Swiss Alps. Mainly just track
width and scenery has changed but in some places
the scenery has changed so much it looks like
a completely different track!
25. The updated Tokyo R246. Basically it looks
a lot more realistic now and the lighting has
also changed (track is a lot brighter like midday/noon).
26. The updated Seattle Circuit. Looks more realistic
now and there are more surface types than before
(i think?).
27. The updated Test Course. At last there are
more things to look at as the scenery has had
an overhaul. Along the first corner there is a
line of pylons which runs alongside a motorway/highway
(something with lots of street lights anyway).
28. Used cars now have mileage on them (i.e. 90,109
km's, 45,682 km's or the very rare 10.0 km's),
cars also seemed to be priced according to the
mileage on them.
29. Used wheels shop. Do you
want R34 Skyline GT-R wheels for your Mazda RX-8?
What about FPV F6 Typhoon wheels for your Aston
Martin DB9? In this shop you can find wheels from
all the other cars for sale. Lineup changes daily!
30. Used cars changes weekly
31. Used cars are split into three groups, 1980's/classics,
1990-1995, 1995-2000+.
32. You won't find just Japanese cars
in the used car sections. Chevrolet Camaro's
& Corvettes. Alfa Romeo's. Ford Taurus, Mustang.
TVR Speed 6, Griffith. Lotus Elise, Carlton. Jaguar
XKR. Aston Martin V8 Vantage and heaps more from
other countries now appear randomly. Some may
only show up very, very rarely (like the Corvette
Grand Sport).
33. Honda V-tec'ed cars now sound MUCH better.
Especially the race cars. *drool*
34. Shelby Cobra/AC Ace now sounds awesome with
a deep, bassy rumble.
35. Most of the V8 cars sound decent now, unlike
most in GT2.
36. RUF's now sound better (most of them anyway).
37. You can hear the turbo whine and blow off
valves! But only in the roof & driver views.
38. Replay's (WOW! Basically
every single replay on every track looks so realistic
its not even funny!!!)
39. Tyre screeching sounds are now very realistic,
even more so than the TOCA/V8 Supercar/DTM &
Need for Speed games.
40. I'm loving the new menu designs
41. And really love the new menu music
(mind you, Polyphony have always had awesome menu
music in all GT's)
43. Photo Mode is slowly becoming addictive!
44. Love the new car wash and how the two guys
clean the wheels and windows!
45. Also love the new oil change how the car lifts
up and the guy goes under and changes it!
46. Starting to like and use B-Spec mode more
now (my driver still has trouble winning races
though but is improving)
47. The Mazda RX-7's now sound like they do
have rotary engines in them!
48. Circuit de la Sarthe II.
The old version of Le Mans - where the Mercedes
CLK GTR and Porsche 911 GT1 both flipped down
the hugely long 6 km Hunaudieres Straight (i think).
Try to replicate that on this track!
49. Nurburgring Nordschleife.
Need i really say any more?
50. The Corvette C5-R now at least sounds growlier
than it did in GT3.
51. BMW M3 CSL around the Nurburgring. What a
challenge! Seriously good fun though!
52. Opera Paris. One of the most
fun street courses primarily for the fact that
the surface is very uneven - which is said in
game to be because of real life water drainage
considerations. Awesome fun in fast cars.
53. Classical music in the game. I really like
almost all of the fifteen or so classics from
Mozart, Bach, Chopin etc!
54. Jukebox. Makes it much easier to sort out
all the 94 songs!
55. The ability to upload Photomode pics directly
to your computer via. USB!!!
